“Pegasus II” by Alexander Litwinow is a captivating sculpture inspired by the mythological winged horse. The Pegasus, weighing 3.1 kg and measuring 75x92x153 cm, is crafted from wood with oak veneer. The sculpture embodies a unique blend of tranquility and movement. The framework, repurposed from an old chair, undergoes a remarkable transformation through the artist’s innovative concept of integrating interwoven veneer strips. Such fusion breathes new vitality into the once static object, symbolising the metamorphosis of static contemplations into soaring creative concepts, where stillness evolves into an ascent of inspiration.
Alexander Litwinow believes that the junk he uses as material for his Pegasus sculptures speaks of a life that is used up and no longer needed, waiting to be discovered. But when approached with feelings and the eye of an explorer, it turn something past into something alive. And then the loss of the original functionality is elevated with something completely existential, a new form of creation with a claim to space.
